More Real Men

Lyssa Strada offers heartfelt beau-kudos to premier journalist Keith Olbermann and Mayor Rocky Anderson for having the steely nerve required to speak out against the attacks on our constitutional form of government-- not by enemies abroad, mind you-- but by so-called representatives of this same government.

For a transcript of Keith Olberman's passionate take-down of Rumsfeld's speech before the American Legion in Salt Lake City, read this link from his blog. And, then... for the full effect of his disdainful tone, check out the video links at YouTube and C and L.

Meanwhile, Democratic Mayor Rocky Anderson also gave a speech yesterday while thousands of demonstrators protested a war-promoting PR visit to Salt Lake City by Bush, Rice and Rumsfeld. You can read the entire speech at his website or watch it at C & L or at YouTube. I especially loved the rhetorical form of this speech and that Anderson asked and answered so many important questions, ones that our MSM have been unable to bring themselves to utter with any real sense that they actually want to know the answers.

Recently, I commented elsewhere that we need to reframe not just the MSM's questions or their political narrative, but instead how progressive politicians actually interact with the press. Instead of responding in good faith to falsely dichotomous questions, I would like to see our progressive candidates and incumbents alike reframe the questions, and lob them right back at the press, asking them why they haven't covered the [insert any one of so many under- and non-covered issues] in the manner it deserves, i.e., without immediately adopting the GOP talking points. Well, great minds and all that... because here is Anderson doing almost exactly that, but all by himself. Olbermann, on the other hand, is doing what he does so well, and what we wish more members of the press would do. Questioning authority. Refusing to accept the administration's condescension.
