The author Kurt Vonnegut has died. He was 84. Vonnegut authored at least 19 novels, including Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat’s Cradle. In recent years, Vonnegut was a fierce critic of the Bush administration and a columnist for the magazine In These Times. Amy Goodman of Democracy Now has the story.

For so many of us, Vonnegut was the underground classic author. He was the guy who connected the dots and did it with incredible depth, simplicity, and humor. He was a class act. Our modern Mark Twain. He will be missed.

Another of the influential authors of my youth is gone. Ellison, Thompson, and now Vonnegut. I am feeling very old.
